John Henry is still upset about the Boston sports medias reaction to David Ortiz’ failed drug test (which was announced on July 30).
In his blog on NESN.com, John Henry called out Dan Shaughnessy of the Boston Globe and Tony Massarotti of 98.5 The Sports Hub and the Boston Globe specifically.
He called Dan Shaughnessy’s article about David Ortiz’ failed drug test an “over-the-top hatchet large enough to cut any giant down to size.” All Dan Shaughnessy wrote was that “David Ortiz looks like one of the television evangelists who gets caught in a seedy motel with a hooker.”
Personally, I think that’s a pretty creative way to sum up the revelations.
John Henry was also disguisted with the fact that “within minutes of the news conference’s end, Tony Massarotti of The Boston Globe went on NESN to cast aspersions.”
Note to John Henry: that’s called journalism.
If the Boston sports media had defended Ortiz, it would have been a disgrace. The job of the media is to report the news and give analysis. To blindly defend a man who had failed a drug test is disgraceful.
John Henry went on to say: “This whole episode was grossly unfair. I didn’t write for weeks because I was so angry. The advice from everyone was to just let it die. But how can we let this injustice die?”
Is John Henry for real? Or is he just an attention whore looking to get his name in the papers and on sports talk radio?
I wonder.
