Jon Heyman of SI.com is reporting that the Mets have signed Jason Bay to a 4 year $66M contract pending a physical. It will average $16.5M a year (1.5 million more per year than the Red Sox offered).
This guy is pissa. If he had never been traded to Boston for Manny Ramirez, he would have played out his contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates and no one would have noticed him.
But the Sox took a chance and traded for him. They put him in the heart of their lineup and he shined...and he walked away for the money.
No loyalty to the organization. No loyalty to his teammates. No loyalty to Red Sox fans. He personifies the greedy athlete.
He is the antithesis of Kevin Youkilis, Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz and Jon Lester who signed contract extensions before becoming free agents, thus taking less money to stay in Boston.
The only thing he is loyal to is the green stuff. Money.
The Red Sox are one big bat away from being a World Series contender and Jason Bay doesn’t care.
He left the Red Sox for 1.5 million more per year. Does that put a pit in the bottom of your stomach or what?
