SI Calls Theo A "Mover and Shaker" This Winter as Sox Target Rich Harden, Mark DeRosa HAHA

Jon Heyman of SI.com actually believes the hype.

In his SI.com column, he calls Theo Epstein one of this winters "movers and shakers."

I'm sorry but “making a push” for Roy Halladay, “showing interest” in Adrian Gonzalez and “attempting to sign” Jason Bay doesn’t make you a mover and shaker.

Its called PR. It’s a smoke screen sent out by the Red Sox PR machine.

The reality is that the Red Sox big acquisitions this offseason have been Tug Hulett and Jeremy Herminda (and if NBCsports.com is correct they are close to acquiring Rich Harden and Mark DeRosa).

Note: acquiring Rich Harden, Mark DeRosa, Tug Hulett and Jeremy Herminda is not good PR.

Those transactions aren’t sexy and make the Sox appear cheap and stingy.

But leaking info that the Red Sox are pursuing Roy Halladay, Adrian Gonzalez and potentially Miguel Cabrera is great PR. It keeps people talking about the Sox and keeps people interested.

If the Halladay, Bay, Gonzalez and Cabrera rumors had never been circulated, we would be talking about the fact that the Red Sox signed Jeremy Hermida to replace Jason Bay and moved Dustin Pedroia to short stop.

Oooooh. So juicy.

Acquiring Tug Hulett and Jeremy Herminda is like going after the ugly girl at the dance.

Those girls aren’t exactly top tier nor hard to get. Getting with one of them doesn’t make you a big shot.

A big shot goes after the premier talent.

Remember, the Sox got shot down by Teixeira last off season. The reality is that the Red Sox have become chubby chasers. They talk about scoring with the hot chic but end up going home with the chubby chic.
