Boston Sports Moment Of The Decade: April 16, 2000: The day the Patriots drafted Tom Brady

In this decade, we Boston sports fans saw some amazing things.

Im not going to bore you with another list of obviously great moments. Lets look at some significant moments that don’t get talked about much.

April 16, 2000: The day the Patriots drafted Tom Brady. This moment was the genesis of modern Patriots history. If I ever write a book about the Patriots, the title will be: "In the beginning, the Patriots drafted Tom Brady."

January 2002: The Red Sox were sold to John Henry. And then the dominos began to fall into place.

May 23, 2007: Celtics get the #5 pick in 2007 NBA Draft Lottery despite having a 19% chance of getting the number one pick. This triggered a sequence of events that lead to the Celtics trading for Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, thus winning an NBA Championship this decade.

October 31st, 2005: The day Theo Epstein resigned as Red Sox GM. Sure it only lasted a couple of months, but during his hiatus, interim general managers Jed Hoyer and Ben Cherington traded Hanley Ramirez to the Florida Marlins for Mike Lowell (the 2007 World Series MVP) and Josh Beckett. Without those two players, the Red Sox don’t win the World Series in 2007. Theo vowed to never trade Hanley Ramirez, thus if he never resigned the Red Sox don’t win the World Series in 2007. Without a World Series title in 2007, the 2004 World Series Championship is just a flash in the pan. A fluke. This solidified the Red Sox as an elite franchise.

September 23, 2001: The day Drew Bledsoe got injured, allowing Tom Brady the chance to play quarterback for the Patriots...thus marking the beginning of the Tom Brady Era. This goes hand in hand with April 16, 2000. You simply can't have one without the other.

Are you sad that I didnt make one reference to the Bruins? Okay.

So we saw the Bruins...well um...we saw the Bruins play hockey games...and score goals and stuff. Well, we did see a Bruins team that had the Norris Trophy Winner, Vezina Winner and Coach Of The Year all in the same year.

They proceeded to get bounced in the second round of the playoffs. Sorry, the 00s were a wasted decade for the Boston Bruins. There isnt much to say about them.
