Boston Sports Moment Of The Decade: April 16, 2000: The day the Patriots drafted Tom Brady

In this decade, we Boston sports fans saw some amazing things.

Im not going to bore you with another list of obviously great moments. Lets look at some significant moments that don’t get talked about much.

April 16, 2000: The day the Patriots drafted Tom Brady. This moment was the genesis of modern Patriots history. If I ever write a book about the Patriots, the title will be: "In the beginning, the Patriots drafted Tom Brady."

January 2002: The Red Sox were sold to John Henry. And then the dominos began to fall into place.

May 23, 2007: Celtics get the #5 pick in 2007 NBA Draft Lottery despite having a 19% chance of getting the number one pick. This triggered a sequence of events that lead to the Celtics trading for Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, thus winning an NBA Championship this decade.

October 31st, 2005: The day Theo Epstein resigned as Red Sox GM. Sure it only lasted a couple of months, but during his hiatus, interim general managers Jed Hoyer and Ben Cherington traded Hanley Ramirez to the Florida Marlins for Mike Lowell (the 2007 World Series MVP) and Josh Beckett. Without those two players, the Red Sox don’t win the World Series in 2007. Theo vowed to never trade Hanley Ramirez, thus if he never resigned the Red Sox don’t win the World Series in 2007. Without a World Series title in 2007, the 2004 World Series Championship is just a flash in the pan. A fluke. This solidified the Red Sox as an elite franchise.

September 23, 2001: The day Drew Bledsoe got injured, allowing Tom Brady the chance to play quarterback for the Patriots...thus marking the beginning of the Tom Brady Era. This goes hand in hand with April 16, 2000. You simply can't have one without the other.

Are you sad that I didnt make one reference to the Bruins? Okay.

So we saw the Bruins...well um...we saw the Bruins play hockey games...and score goals and stuff. Well, we did see a Bruins team that had the Norris Trophy Winner, Vezina Winner and Coach Of The Year all in the same year.

They proceeded to get bounced in the second round of the playoffs. Sorry, the 00s were a wasted decade for the Boston Bruins. There isnt much to say about them.

The Randy Moss Mask: The Turning Point In Patriots Season

No doubt about it, the Patriots are peaking at the right time.

The Colts downward spiral has begun and the Saints have lost two games in a row, meanwhile the Patriots are clicking on all cylinders going into the playoffs.

Kinda reminds you of the Cardinals last season or even (gulp) the Giants of 2007.

It wasn’t too long ago that “late-gate” and “Randy isn’t trying” dominated the headlines. It truly is amazing what winning does to a team. It is also amazing how momentum can either carry a team all the way to a Super Bowl win or send a team to the golf course.

THE moment that just may have signified the turning point in the 2009 Patriots was the infamous dancing man in the Randy Moss Mask.

If you want to watch the video of the Randy Moss Mask dancing man, check it out. It has been immortalized on youtube.

The Patriots have been through alot this season. They have been criticized, scrutinized, bashed and trashed and now they are poised to make a serious run in the playoffs.

Seeing Randy laughing and having fun on the sidelines is symbolic of a team that is over "late-gate" and is over "Randy isnt trying". The Patriots are loose, having fun and on a roll--basically the antithesis of the Colts and Saints right now.

Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Red Sox In Discussions With Adrian Beltre...A 3rd Baseman Who Hit 8 HRs Last Season...ugg

According to Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston, the Red Sox are in discussions with Adrian Beltres agent, Scott Boras.

But the discussions have been “complicated by the voiding of the Mike Lowell trade to Texas.” Whatever that means.

Beltre is considered one of the best defensive third basemen in the majors, but last season he only hit .265 with 8 home runs and 44 RBI.

Its gonna be a LOOOOONG season for Red Sox fans.

Remember the way you felt last season whenever Jason Varitek got to the plate? Well, get used to that feeling.

"Run prevention" wont help the Sox when they're are down by 3 late in the game and Mike Cameron or Adrian Beltre get to the plate.

By the way, had you ever heard the term “run prevention” before this off season? Seems as though Theo is trying to sugar coat the fact that he has signed a boat load of mediocre talent this off season.

Anyway, you can put lipstick on a pig but its still a pig.

Greed Personified: Jason Bay Is Heading To The Mets

Jon Heyman of SI.com is reporting that the Mets have signed Jason Bay to a 4 year $66M contract pending a physical. It will average $16.5M a year (1.5 million more per year than the Red Sox offered).

This guy is pissa. If he had never been traded to Boston for Manny Ramirez, he would have played out his contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates and no one would have noticed him.

But the Sox took a chance and traded for him. They put him in the heart of their lineup and he shined...and he walked away for the money.

No loyalty to the organization. No loyalty to his teammates. No loyalty to Red Sox fans. He personifies the greedy athlete.

He is the antithesis of Kevin Youkilis, Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz and Jon Lester who signed contract extensions before becoming free agents, thus taking less money to stay in Boston.

The only thing he is loyal to is the green stuff. Money.

The Red Sox are one big bat away from being a World Series contender and Jason Bay doesn’t care.

He left the Red Sox for 1.5 million more per year. Does that put a pit in the bottom of your stomach or what?

Colts Didn’t Have The Balls To Go For 16 – 0

The bottom line is that Peyton Manning could have pulled a “Brett Favre.”

Last Sunday, Brett Favre basically told his head coach that he wasn’t coming out of the game.

When I saw Payton Manning come out of the game yesterday, my first thought was that Colts head coach Jim Caldwell was crushing any moral and any momentum that his team had.

But Im putting this decision (and this loss) on Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning is gutless.

Manning could have gone the Brett Favre route and told his head coach no.

He could have been a leader (and showed some balls) and stood up to a head coach who made a bizarre decision that had no potential positive implications and endless negative implications. But he didnt.

Peyton Manning is the reason why the Colts season essentially ended on Sunday. A team doesnt come back from a loss so devastating, from a decision so morally crushing, and win a Super Bowl. It just doesnt happen.

This is the kind of decision that causes turmoil in the locker room, disarray in the front office and begins a downward spiral that doesnt stop quickly.

And I'll tell you another thing. The Patriots chances of winning the Super Bowl this year just got a lot better (thank you Peyton).

Yankees Payroll Over 200 Million, Only 16 Players Signed

According to the Associated Press, the Yankees payroll is above 200 million and they only have 16 players signed!!!

Their starting rotation alone will make 64 million dollars.

How can you possibly root for someone who is playing with a loaded deck? Yea yea yea, I know the Red Sox spend alot of money, but they are under the luxury tax.

The Yankees are giving the middle finger to every team in major league baseball and hoarding the premiere talent in the league.

A disgrace.

'Twas the night before Christmas (Red Sox)

(abridged version)

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the Nation
Not a creature was stirring, around Kenmore Station

Mike Lowell was sitting, at third base with care
Knowing that Theo Epstein didn’t want him there

Jason Bay was nestled all snug in his bed,
While visions of dollar signs danced in his head (greedy prick)
Rem Dog in his 'kerchief and Orsillo in his cap
Had just settled in for a long winter's nap

When over at Fenway there arose such a clatter
Theo sprang from his office to see what was the matter
He ran to his cellphone, and looked in a flash
A text from Jed Hoyer said “Im ready to make a splash!”

The moon over the monster, and the field full of snow
Made JD Drew smile…what do you know?
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But Adrian Gonzalez in a sleigh, bringing good cheer!

Jed Hoyer had done it! We made the trade!
He whistled and shouted and called the new Padres by name

"Now , Buchholz! Now, Ellsbury! Now Kelly and Bard!
Ive got you all now! Come to Petco Park!
No more green monster, no more big wall
You won't have to deal with cold weather at all."

So Adrian went to first base, with a happy ol’ whistle
Every ball that he hit, had the sound of a missile
And we heard Jed Hoyer exclaim, as he walked out of sight
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

Did Yankees REALLY Want Lackey And Settle For Vazquez?

The Yankees acquisition of Javier Vazquez today raises some interesting questions.

Did the Yankees want John Lackey?

Lackey was the best free agent pitcher on the market and one of the Yankees biggest needs this off season was starting pitching.

The Red Sox already had two aces BEFORE they signed John Lackey so one cant help but wonder if the Lackey signing was a preemptive strike on the Yankees...or maybe some sort of retaliation for the Mark Teixeira "stealing" last offseason.

The baseball off season can be a very complicated game and sometimes you have to make a move with the goal of not only beating your opponent on the field next season but destroying your closest competitors off season strategy (see the Teixeira signing last off season and what it did to the Red Sox 2009 season and what the Lackey signing might do to the Yankees).

The icing on this cake is the fact that the Yankees had to TRADE Melky Cabrera in order to get a starting pitcher. They couldnt just go out and sign one. They had to give something up.

Kudos to Theo Epstein. You played your hand well.

Lackey Signing Has John Henrys Finger Prints All Over It

You cant help but scratch your head regarding the John Lackey signing.

How does a GM who has made it clear about the next two years being “bridge” years go out and sign a top of the rotation pitcher to a five year contract worth approximately 18 million annually?

Well, in an email to Gordon Edes of ESPNboston.com, John Henry said, “No one in our front office, no player I've met on this team and certainly no Sox fans have ever been about waving white flags.”

Those comments fly in the face of Theos said mission statement about the next two years being "bridge" years. This John Lackey signing has John Henrys finger prints all over it.

Lets get into the mind of a billionaire like John Henry. When you have a lot of money and you’re feelin kinda down (or you are pissed because your neighbor has an SUV bigger than yours), you go out and buy something expensive to make you feel better.

When you own the Red Sox and are feeling shitty, you go out and buy yourself an $82.5 million pitcher.

And if your wife (Theo in this case) has clearly stated that she doesn’t want to buy anything big for the next few years, you go buy it on the way home from work...behind her back.

John Henry threw Theo's mission statement out the window with the John Lackey signing. And God bless him for it. He has the soft voice of your favorite uncle and balls of an 800 pound gorilla.

We are fortunate to have John Henry as an owner. He isnt a passive owner (um...Jeremy Jacobs) who lets his stingy, stubborn GM (um...Harry Sinden) prevent his team from getting the final piece to turn their team from a "competitive team" to a team thats "competing for a championship."

And how does he justify the signing? He doesn’t. Hes the frickin owner. As said in the email to Gordon EdesWe have two rings so far because we are always in transition. At this point I have no idea why some take words such as 'transitioning' and 'building bridges' to mean we are giving up over the short-term.”

As baseball fans, we are fortunate to have an owner like John Henry.

Padres Would Make Trade If It Included Buchholz and Ellsbury

According to the Boston Globe:

Padres GM Jed Hoyer is asking for Clay Buchholz and righthanded pitching prospect Casey Kelly or outfielder Ryan Westmoreland. The Red Sox, at least for the time being, won’t include Kelly or Westmoreland.

And today Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com is reporting that the Red Sox are working hard to get Adrian Gonzalez and that the Padres would make the deal if it included Clay Buchholz AND Jacoby Ellsbury.

Considering the Sox have Hermida slated for left and possibly Cameron slated for center, a deal that would include Buchholz and Ellsbury makes sense. But does Theo have a hot trigger finger?

Tiger Woods Is The New Barry Bonds

He cheated on his wife and may have used HGH.

No, Im not talking about Barry Bonds. Im talking about Tiger Woods. Yes, Tiger woods may have used HGH (human growth hormones).

Tiger Woods’ doctor, Dr. Anthony Galea, is currently being investigated by the FBI for providing athletes with performance-enhancing drugs.

There probably isn’t a smoking gun when it comes to Tiger Woods using HGH, but in the world of professional sports, having your doctor investigated for distributing HGH IS a smoking gun.

Tiger Woods’ and Barry Bonds’ careers have parallels. They each were among the all-time greats in their respective sports before they cheated, then turned to the dark side and became godly.

One can help but but belt out a Nancy Kerrigan-esque why why why why why?

Were they blinded by their egos?  Were the surrounded by enablers?  Why do it?

Barry Bonds' actions ensured that he wont get any endorsements deals in his golden years.  I think we can all see where Tiger Woods’ life is headed.

I have a the perfect post career epitaph for each of them:  there goes another athlete who had it all and threw it away.

John Lackey Took Physical With Red Sox Today

According to multiple sources, John Lackey took a physical Monday with the Red Sox, which is typically the last step before signing a with a team.

Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com was the first to report this.

It is expected that he will sign a five-year deal with the Red Sox worth approx $82.5 million.

Signing a front line pitcher like John Lackey could be the first in a series of dominos to fall.

At the very least, this gives the Red Sox the flexibility to include Clay Buchholz in a deal for Adrian Gonzalez.

The Red Sox now have six starting pitchers:

Beckett
Lackey
Lester
Buchholz
Matsusaka
Wakefield

The only untouchable is Tim Wakefield and the only unwantable is Matsusaka.

It now seems very likely that the Sox will include Buchholz in a deal for Adrian Gonzalez or potentially include Beckett in a trade for Miguel Cabrera.

After weeks of talking about signing Jason Bay, the Red Sox came out of left field (no pun intended) with this John Lackey signing and it simply doesnt make sense...unless there is another shoe to fall.

Stay tuned....

Marc Savard vs Jason Bay: A Tale Of Two Athletes In A Contract Year

They were in similar situations.

Jason Bay could have signed an extension with the Red Sox at the All Star break this past season but instead opted to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Marc Savard chose NOT to become a free agent at the end of this season and signed a contract extension mid season (at a hometown discount).

Jason Bay knew that it was going to be a weak free agency class and that he would be the top free agent available. He didn’t want to take a hometown discount or even sign a reasonable offer by the Red Sox. He wanted to maximize the green stuff.

Had Marc Savard become a free agent at the end of the season, he would have been one of the top free agents in the NHL and made A LOT of money. But he didnt.

Marc Savard is on the record as saying, “I'm proud to be a Boston Bruin. I’ve watched this town grow back into a hockey town and hopefully our goal as a team and staff comes true, that we can bring a (Stanley) Cup here to Boston.”

And he backed up those statements by signing with Boston for less money than he could have got as a free agent.

That is the kind of statement that a winner makes…a leader.

Jason Bay only cares about the money. He personifies the greedy athlete.

If he had never been traded to Boston for Manny Ramirez, he would have played out his contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates and no one would have noticed him.

But he hit the lottery the day he was traded to the Red Sox for Manny Ramirez. The Sox put him in the heart of their lineup and made it to game 7 of the ALCS that year getting him a lot of national exposure

He was voted a starter to the All Star game in 2009 and now he is about to walk away for the money.

No loyalty to the organization. No loyalty to his teammates. No loyalty to Red Sox fans.

The only thing he is loyal to is the green stuff. Money.

PAT THE PERV !

Just when you thought things couldnt get any worse for the Patriots, Robert Sormanti, aka the man who wears the Pat The Patriot mascot costume during Patriots games, was busted yesterday in a prostitution ring in Rhode Island according to WHDH.com.

I dont know whats more pathetic--a 47 year old man working as an mascot or a man so stupid as to think he could solicit prostitutes from Criagslist and NOT get busted.

Adalius Thomas Quotes Regarding “Late Player Gate”

“There's nothing to apologize about”

"There's one thing about Mother Nature -- You can't control that,"

“You leave home, there are people there, cars sitting in the road, you're sitting there, what are you gonna do? It's not the Jetsons. I can't jump up and fly.”

“You’re told to call and you call, you get sent home.”

“"I mean, I could've been in a ditch. They really don't give a damn. Hey, as long as you aren't in that meeting, they really don't give a (bleep)."

“Motivation is for kindergartners.”

“I just do what I’m told. I was told to go home so that’s why I did.”

Memo to Adalius: Tom Brady had a frickin baby Tuesday night and he still made it to the meeting on time to the 8am Wednesday meeting. Three other players were late and they aren’t bitchin about it. They all took it like men.

For the first time in Bill Belichicks reign, the Patriots have a troubled player on the squad. And we are watching the Patriots fall apart right before our eyes.

I, along with many others Im sure, thought this day would never come. But it is here. The "Patriots Way" is a thing of the past.

No more Vrabel, Seymour, Harrison and Bruschi.

This is the next phase. And is sucks.

Richard Seymour Sounds Off About Patriots

Richard Seymour sounded off on the Patriots to the Boston Heralds Ron Borges.

Seymour said:

“You can’t just have great coaching and no talent. You’ve got to have both.”

“I know I could have helped. No doubt about that.”

“I’ve received a lot of text messages lately from guys back there saying, ’We could use you now.’”

Wow! You know its bad when a team has CURRENT players texting former players saying "we could use you."

I wonder if Belichick regrets the Seymour trade now.

Red Sox Acquire Boof Bonser From Twins...oooh big deal

All of you people in Red Sox Nation waiting for the Red Sox to acquire Adrian Gonzalez, Roy Halladay or Miguel Cabrera keep dreaming because it seems Theo Epstein prefers blemished goods and mediocrity to premier talent.

Theo Epstein yesterday continued to shop in the “damaged goods” section of Stop & Shop when the Red Sox acquired pitcher Boof Bonser from the Twins for a player to be named later or cash.

Boof Bonser missed the entire 2009 season after undergoing labrum surgery in February.

The bright side is that Red Sox Nation now has another great debate on the table. Who had the coolest name in Red Sox history? Coco Crisp or Boof Bonser.

Theo Epstein Has Disappointed Us So Far This Off Season

So the Red Sox "big moves" so far this offseason have been signing Marco Scutaro and trading for Jeremy Hermida? ooohh.

Couple that with the sucky weather around here and the constant traffic and this off season so far has sucked.

Theo Epstein has yet make a solid offer for Adrian Gonzalez or Roy Halladay and probably wont. Theo has admitted that the next two years are "bridge years."

Ready for this? According to OverTheMonster, Theo Epstein admitted that the Red Sox are in a two year “bridge period.”

Theo said, “We talked about this a lot at the end of the year, that we’re kind of in a bridge period. We still think that if we push some of the right buttons, we can be competitive at the very highest levels for the next two years. But we don’t want to compromise too much of the future for that competitiveness during the bridge period, but we all don’t want to sacrifice our competitiveness during the bridge just for the future.”

It was bad enough that the Red Sox season ended with a three game sweep by the Angels. After investing six months of my life watching that team and thinking they had a shot to at least make it to the ALCS now I learn that we are headed for two “bridge years?” Yea Im a little pissed off right now.

Heres a list of Red Sox acquisitions during the 2009 Winter Meetings:

Signed:
pitcher Justin Duchscherer
pitcher Fabio Castro
pitcher Kason Gabbard
pitcher Scott Atchison
pitcher Boof Bonser
short stop Marco Scutaro
pitcher Ramon Ramirez (yes, we now have 2 of them on the team)
pitcher Scott Atchison

acquired via trade traded:
catcher Max Ramirez (traded for Mike Lowell huh?)
outfielder Jeremy Hermida (traded for minor league pitchers Hunter Jones and Jose Alvarez)

Last season, the Yankees got every player on their with list. They signed the three biggest free agents on the market: Mark Teixeira, C.C. Sabbathia and A.J. Burnett.

What happened to our dreams of getting Jason Bay, John Lackey, Adrian Gonzalez, and/or Miguel Cabrera?

I guess we have to settle for a at least two years of "mediocrity" in Red Sox Nation because it appears the Red Sox have conceded the AL East to the Yankees for two years and have their sights set ona 2012 World Series title.

Hang tight yall. The next two years may be painful.

Padres GM Jed Hoyer "Comfortable" Making a Deal With Red Sox For Adrian Gonzalez

Padres GM and former Red Sox Assistant GM Jed Hoyer said that he would feel more comfortable making a trade with the Red Sox than any other team because he knows the Red Sox prospects better than other teams prospects.

According to WEEI:

There’s a comfort level in that, and frankly, I guess, a lack of risk compared to some other transactions where you don’t have the same level of knowledge. Certainly, putting it in the context of Adrian, that’s just speculation, but it is true that we know those players very well

Let The Conspiracy Theories Begin!

That doesn’t necessarily mean the Red Sox would be willing to trade any of those prospects.

Remember, Theo knows those prospects as well as Jed does and has a history of not trading top prospects for impact players who can help the team in the short term.

In Amalie Benjamins piece in the Sunday Boston Globe Theo said, “90 percent of our time as baseball operations is spent trying to build the foundation and build our long-term outlook. Ten percent of our time is spent maximizing our competitiveness in any one particular year.”

Hey Jed, good luck prying those prospects from his cold dead hands.

NHL Investigating Marc Savard Contract

Uh oh. NHL lawyers are investigating Marc Savards 7 year contract to determine whether the contract intentionally circumvents the collective-bargaining agreement.

Savards deal is for an average of 4.2 million per year so it will count as 4.2 million against the cap for the next seven years. But the salary breaks down as such:

2010-11: $7 million
2011-12: $7 million
2012-13: $6.5 million
2013-14: $5 million
2014-15: $1.5 million
2015-16: $525,000
2016-17: $525,000

Seems kinda fishy. Makes you think that maybe they tacked on the last three years to bring the average down, thus giving them a lower salary cap hit.

It isn’t really cheating…its just finding a loophole. It is unethical, but since when does business and ethics go hand in hand.

Theo Epstein: "we’ve made a conscious effort to ignore anything that focuses on the short term"

Theo Epstein told Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe: “we’ve made a conscious effort to ignore the media, ignore the next day’s headlines, ignore anything that focuses on the short term.”

Theo has made it clear that he doesn’t want to win a World Series in 2010. He doesn’t seem to really want to win a World Series at all.

It seems as though his mission statement as GM is to produce young talent and be consistently good without ever making a push for a World Series.

Remember, Theo Epstein was on a “hiatus” back in November of 2005 when the Red Sox traded Hanley Ramirez to the Florida Marlins for Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell.

If the Sox hadn’t made that trade, they wouldn’t have won a World Series in 2007. And I guarantee that Theo wouldn’t have made that trade. Hell, he’s been trying to get Hanley Ramirez back ever since.

In Amalie Benjamins piece Theo went on to say, “I’d say 90 percent of our time as baseball operations is spent trying to build the foundation and build our long-term outlook. Ten percent of our time is spent maximizing our competitiveness in any one particular year.”

Memo to Theo: Red Sox fans would rather “maximizing our competitiveness in any one particular year” and win a World Series every few years than be a “competitive team and come close” year in and year out.

We did that for 86 years and it SUCKED.

The sad thing is that the Red Sox are so close to being a World Series contender that I can smell it. They are one impact player away. But Theo wont pull the trigger on a Hanley Ramirez for Mike Lowell and Josh Becket type of deal. And as a fan it sucks.

Boston Red Sox have become the Atlanta Braves of the 1990s and the Oakland As of the early 2000s--a team that is happy simply “contending” every year but never going for the gusto.

You punch them in the mouth…or you beat them with a golf club until they drive into a fire hydrant and tree (and don’t tell me that what Kessel said to Marc Savard wasn’t the act of a cuntface).

I cant remember being this excited about a regular season game. Maybe its because Phil Kessel personifies the typical greedy athlete.

Maybe its because Kessel fled Boston for more money and told Marc Savard that he should too (see my blog entry from yesterday). You must admit, that was a dick thing to do.

Ive seen MANY Phil Kessel jerseys in my day. He was embraced by Bruins fans when he was here. So why does Kessel hate Boston so much? We may never know.

I do know that the feeling is mutual. Phil Kessel is hated in Boston. We can only hope his former teammates feel the same.

Kessel Told Savard To "wait and not sign" With The Bruins

Marc Savard was on the Dale & Holley Show on WEEI yesterday and said that Phil Kessel told him to “wait and not sign” with the Bruins.

As you know, Marc Savard chose NOT to become a free agent at the end of the year and signed a 7 year deal with the Bruins at a hometown discount.

Had he become a free agent at the end of the season, he would have been one of the most sought after players on the market and made A LOT of money.

But Savard took the hometown discount because as he said, “this is where I want to play. I'm happy with what I got. I'm proud to be a Boston Bruin. I’ve watched this town grow back into a hockey town and hopefully our goal as a team and staff comes true, that we can bring a (Stanley) Cup here to Boston.”

Kessel on the other hand chased the money.

He doesnt care about the city of Boston, the Bruins organization, the Bruins fans or winning.

All he wanted was the money...even if that meant playing for a team with no shot at competing for the Stanley Cup anytime soon.

Savard will be a Bruin for a long time. Kessel will be a Maple Leaf for a long time.

Savard is a classy and very likeable guy. Kessel is a wicked asshole.

Looks like we have a rivalry boys. KESSEL-MANIA 1 this Saturday night!!!!

SI Calls Theo A "Mover and Shaker" This Winter as Sox Target Rich Harden, Mark DeRosa HAHA

Jon Heyman of SI.com actually believes the hype.

In his SI.com column, he calls Theo Epstein one of this winters "movers and shakers."

I'm sorry but “making a push” for Roy Halladay, “showing interest” in Adrian Gonzalez and “attempting to sign” Jason Bay doesn’t make you a mover and shaker.

Its called PR. It’s a smoke screen sent out by the Red Sox PR machine.

The reality is that the Red Sox big acquisitions this offseason have been Tug Hulett and Jeremy Herminda (and if NBCsports.com is correct they are close to acquiring Rich Harden and Mark DeRosa).

Note: acquiring Rich Harden, Mark DeRosa, Tug Hulett and Jeremy Herminda is not good PR.

Those transactions aren’t sexy and make the Sox appear cheap and stingy.

But leaking info that the Red Sox are pursuing Roy Halladay, Adrian Gonzalez and potentially Miguel Cabrera is great PR. It keeps people talking about the Sox and keeps people interested.

If the Halladay, Bay, Gonzalez and Cabrera rumors had never been circulated, we would be talking about the fact that the Red Sox signed Jeremy Hermida to replace Jason Bay and moved Dustin Pedroia to short stop.

Oooooh. So juicy.

Acquiring Tug Hulett and Jeremy Herminda is like going after the ugly girl at the dance.

Those girls aren’t exactly top tier nor hard to get. Getting with one of them doesn’t make you a big shot.

A big shot goes after the premier talent.

Remember, the Sox got shot down by Teixeira last off season. The reality is that the Red Sox have become chubby chasers. They talk about scoring with the hot chic but end up going home with the chubby chic.

Some Idiot Is Already Waiting In Line For Red Sox Spring Training Tickets

Ticket to Red Sox spring training games go on sale Saturday an noon. This man, along with his dog, bible and a bottle of Mountain Dew have been waiting in line since Wednesday.

I dont know if this shows how passionate Red Sox fans can be or how bored Florida residence can get.

Ive been to Florida many times and I must say, sitting outside of a ticket office for three days is probably as fun as anything else thats going on in Florida.
