Umpire Joe West: Pace of Yankees-Red Sox Games “pathetic and embarrassing”

You think Red Sox Yankees games are too long? Umpire Joe West agrees.

Joe West was the chief of the umpiring crew that worked the Yankees Red Sox series.

He told the New Jersey newspaper The Record, "They're two of the best teams in baseball. Why are they playing the slowest? It's pathetic and embarrassing. They take too long to play."

The three Yankees-Red Sox games this season have lasted 3:46, 3:38; and 3:21.

West went on to say, "The commissioner of baseball says he wants the pace picked up. We try. And [Tuesday night's game] still almost went four hours."

I have no idea why Red Sox Yankees games tend to move at a slower pace than other games. I really don’t.

Even when the umpires try and speed up the pace, they still seem to drag close to 4 hours long.

Maybe it’s the baseball gods talking to us.

All I know is that I can watch EVERY SECOND of a Bruins-Canadians game or a Patriots-Colts gam yet I cant sit through every second of a Yankees-Red Sox game.

Its the pace more so than the length. You can conceivable wait 2 to 3 minutes between pitches. Im not talking about 2 to 3 minutes for an an-bat. Im saying BETWEEN PITCHES.

And sometimes it is painful to watch
