From the Boston Herald / Inside Track:
The late Johnny Pesky gave his life to his beloved Boston Red Sox, but, sadly, it appears only four current players made time to attend the Fenway icon’s funeral.Word from Yawkey Way is that the Sox front office hired buses to bring players, office and staff to the funeral from the ballpark to the church. The only players the Herald observed at the funeral at St. John The Evangelist Church in Swampscott were designated hitter David Ortiz, pitchers Clay Buchholz and Vincente Padilla and catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia.By contrast, that same night, nearly the entire team turned out for pitcher Josh Beckett’s annual Beckett Bowl and country music show at Lucky Strike Lanes and the House of Blues.
First of all I dont know whats more pathetic, the fact that only four players attended Johnny Pesky's funeral or the fact that the Red Sox front office leaked this info to the gossip column of the Boston Herald. I mean, I understand them being pissed but running to the tabloids is pretty friggin low (and a sign of organizational dysfunction of epic levels).
That being said, Im not surprised at all. The players hate the owners, the owners hate the players, the players hate their manager, the manager hates the players, the coaching staff hates the manager. I mean, its not really news that the Red Sox are a shit show so no one should be surprised right now.
This collection of assholes lost me a long time ago. So this latest chapter just reinforces what we already knew. That this organization is a complete and utter shit show from top to bottom, inside and out and every which way in between.
In a perfect world scenario, we would see the "nuclear option" right about now. John Henry would sell the team and the new owners would clean house and start over. Lets cross our fingers and hope it happens sooner than later. The off the field bullshit is starting to get cringe worthy and I dont know how much more I can take, really.
