The Red Sox Front Office Would Be Friggin Idiots To Sign Derek Lowe. Unless Their Goal Is To Put Asses In The Seats.
Derek Lowe has been released by the Indians and has said that he would welcome a return to Boston. Based on what Ive been reading on twitter, it seems as though Red Sox fans would welcome him back with open arms.
I get it. Derek Lowe pitched a no hitter with the Red Sox and won every series clinching game of the 2004 World Series. There is sentimental value to seeing Derek Lowe in a Red Sox uniform and signing him will no doubt put asses in the seats.
But the dude is old and fat now (39 years old to be exact...and weight unknown) and isnt that good anymore. The Red Sox front office would be friggin idiots to sign him. Sure he started the season 6-1 with a 2.05 era but in his 12 starts after that, he went 2-9 with an 8.80 era.
You know what though? The Red Sox brought in Bobby Valentine knowing it wasnt the best baseball decision. So I wouldnt put it past them to sign the 2012 version of Derek Lowe. After all, they do have bricks to sell and a (phony) sellout streak to keep intact.
