Yup, John Henry Still Has His Head Firmly Planted Up His Ass. Says Red Sox Wont Fire Bobby Valentine.
This Red Sox ownership does not want to win the World Series this year. That is a fact. If John Henry were as committed to winning a World Series this year as he had been in the past, Bobby Valentine would be gone right now.
John Henry sent out an email on Monday (which sounded more like a statement written by a public relations firm) saying that he backed Bobby Valentine. Im sorry, but losing 3 out of 4 games to the pathetic Minnesota Twins is a fireable offense....to a team that wants to win the World Series. To a team that is happy being mediocre, it is just par for the course.
Sure, Bobby Valentine isnt 100% to blame for this shitty team. But firing his ass would rattle that clubhouse and wake up some of those lazy pricks who have been sleepwalking through the season. Sometimes you just gotta whack a guy. And alot of times, the manager is that guy.
But John Henry isnt about winning championships anymore. So long as people keep buying that $8.25 beer and singing Sweet Caroline, this ownership wont give two shits about winning a World Series.
So get used to the mediocrity and press releases full of lame exuses and lies, folks. These are the new Boston Red Sox, where playing .500 is good enough. We will never see a "Nomar type trade" and we will never see a sense of urgency to win a World Series. And to people who lived through 2004 and 2007, that friggin sucks.
