Bobby Valentines interview with Bob Costas was pretty boring. He basically regurgated all the same shit he had been saying during the season. The only bombshell he dropped was when he said David Ortiz quit on his teammates and that is when he knew the season had gone to shit.
"David Ortiz came back after spending about six weeks on the disabled list and we thought it was only going to be a week. He got two hits the first two times up, drove in a couple runs; we were off to the races. Then he realized that this trade (the Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett trade) meant that we’re not going to run this race and we’re not even going to finish the race properly and he decided not to play anymore. I think at that time it was all downhill from there."
He also admitted that in Spring Training, players did indeed come to his office and told him, "please don't yell at Mike like that" after he yelled at Mike Aviles about some infield drill. Aviles had denied that the incident ever happened.
So on his way our the door, he decides to take a shot at David Ortiz and Mike Aviles of all people? He could have kicked Youkilis in the balls, told us how much of a dick Larry Lucchino was or how much of a puppet Ben Cherington was...and he throws Ortiz and Aviles under the bus? Thats kinda douchey.
Valentine also joked that the Red Sox front office warned him that, "they would kill me if I ever said anything" and "they’d sent out the hitman and whack me.” At first I thought he was kidding...but Im starting to wonder. I mean, he had a chance to give the Red Sox front office one final "fuck you" and he passed. What a pussy.
