Yahoo! Sports' own Jeff Passan found out what Boston Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz was putting on his arm recently. It's BullFrog brand sunscreen, something sources told Passan that "90 percent" of major league pitchers use to help them grip the ball in wet circumstances. Hurlers feel naked without the stuff, apparently. Gooey on it's own, sunscreen mixed with rosin produces a roux, of sorts, that has glue-like properties.
If Clay Buchholz wasnt 6-0 with a 1.60 ERA we wouldnt even be talking about this. Sucky pitchers use it, good pitchers use it, so friggin what? Like Passan said, 90% of pitchers use it to get a better grip. According to the article, it isnt even used to doctor the baseball.
For some reason, there has been a psychological war waged against Clay Buchholz and it has to stop. This is irresponsible journalism and McCarthyism at its best (if you dont know what that is, google it). The guy is not fucking cheating.
The media has to stop with this insatiable thirst to tear people down and leave this kid the hell alone. Christ Almighty, this is pissing me off.
