From Yahoo Sports:
The Brooklyn Nets have reached an agreement in principle with the Boston Celtics to acquire future Hall of Famers Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce after Garnett agreed to waive his no-trade clause, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
The trade can't be made official by the NBA until July 10.
The deal centers around a package that sends Gerald Wallace, Kris Joseph, the expiring deal of Kris Humphries and three future first-round picks (2014, '16 and '18) to the Celtics, sources told Y! Sports. The Celtics also will have the right to trade first-round picks with the Nets in 2017 if the Nets have the higher pick.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Danny Ainge's balls. And I like this trade.
This trade was very Belichickian. It really was. Lets face it, the ride was over. The Celtics were the #7 seed last season and got bounced in the first round. It was just time. The Celtics had assets that the Nets saw value in and Danny Ainge flushed sentimental value down the shitter and went to work.
I understand that there was sentimental value in having Paul Pierce retire a Celtic, considering this is the only team he has ever played for and he absolutely loved this city and loved Celtics fans, but Danny Ainge just didnt give a shit about that. In the end, he did what was in the best interest of winning another championship. And for that he should be commended.
This may be sacrilegious to say, but Danny Ainge had the big brass balls to do what Red Auerbach didnt have the balls to do. He gave the middle finger to popular opinion and traded away the aging face of the franchise.
Kudos Danny. Kudos.
