The NHL won't begin formally announcing its award winners until 5 p.m. ET Friday (seriously NHL, what an awful time for that), but one award winner has already been leaked. Your Norris Trophy winner as the league's best defenseman: P.K. Subban of the Montreal Canadiens. That's according to the usually reliable Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet.
PK Subban has to be one of the biggest pussies to ever win the Norris Trophy. Its that simple. He anchors a team who would rather embellish in an attempt to draw penalties than play hard nosed, blue collar, balls to the wall hockey.
Sure, his team finished first in the Northeast Division (by one point) and he was tied for the most points among defensemen this regular season, but he isnt a game changer. He isnt a tough player to play against. And teams arent scared of him. I guess we can chalk this up to the fact that there was a weak class of candidates in this shortened season.
I tried to find a PK Subban highlight reel but this is the best I could do:
PK Subban elbows David Krejci in the face then turtling like a little bitch when Andrew Ference comes after him:
PK Subban with one of the most blatant dives in the history of the NHL:
Ladies and gentlemen, that is your 2013 Norris Trophy winner.
