“I’ve seen pitches that [Victorino] got hit on that were strikes,” Verlander told reporters Monday. “So, I mean, I don’t think you can worry about that. I think just whoever is the home plate umpire needs to be aware he’s up there.”
Verlander said Victorino is “right on top of the plate,” with his arms leaning out of the batter’s box and into the zone.
“Anything on the inner half, occasionally he’s looking to get hit,” Verlander said. “… If he doesn’t get out of the way, there could be an occasion that it could be a strike and it actually hits him. That’s something that I think that those guys [umpires] are aware of.”
Sure, Victorino crowds the plate. Sure, some of the pitches that have hit him probably could have been called strikes. But its pretty obvious the umpires dont give a shit because none of the pitches that have hit him have been called strikes.
If Shane Victorio does get hit by a pitch today and its called a strike, you know that means the umpires are basically taking orders from Justin Verlander and that is bullshit. Victorino has every right to charge the mound and make an example of this prick.
The guy is a great pitcher. There is no need to ask umpires for favors. It makes him come across as an entitled, whiny little bitch and that is beneath him. If he gets his way today, then he should take his medicine in the form of a batshit crazy Shane Victorino charging at him in front of a national tv audience.
This is Game 3 of the ALCS for Christ's sake. This is not the time for Justin Verlander to start dicking around with the umpires. He needs to shut his mouth and get out there and pitch.
